Shouji KONDO's "Japan’s Longevity Villages and Short-lived Villages"
Introduction
Shouji KONDO(1893-1977), is a Japanese epidemiologist who claimed he did the on-site observation research at over 1000 villages in Japan in 1930-1970s. In his book "Japan's Longevity and short-lived villages", he presented some very interesting insights regarding longevity based on his careful observations.
Insights
- Eating habits is the most contributing factor to longevity.
- Depending on refined rice for large portion of calories intake shortens the life expectancy.
- Consuming salt-based preserved foods with refined rice shorten the life expectancy.
- Eating vegetables and sea weeds is good for the l.e.
- Eating fruits like oranges doesn't replace vegetables.
- Doing physical labor is not bad.
- Eating soy-based product regularly is good.
- Eating a lot of fish or meat meals causes the heart failure, shortens the life expectancy.
- Eating small fish whole body enhance the health.
Comments
- Eating vegetable and less eating refine rice is mutually associated. The excretion of digestives and the absorption of nutrients is quicker and intense if the nutrients is dense, condensed and concentrated inside the digestive tube. Vegetables-contained fibers mitigate the condense of nutrients as well as provide vitamins.
- Sea weeds is the good mineral supplementation as well as fiber.
- Eating soy product seems to be associated with the supplement of proteins.
- Item 8, the cause of the heart failure is mysterious.
- Consuming huge amounts of salt is known to cause cardiovascular diseases, particularly in the brain.
- He recommended small fish rather than pieces od big fish. It seems important eating whole fish body including bones which is consisted of minerals.
